A few things you might be wondering.

When can I download Construe?

The app is in development for iPhone and iPad. We haven’t announced a release date yet. When it’s ready, the download link will be on the homepage and we’ll post an update in the release notes.

What is Construe for?

Construe helps you explore unfamiliar English words while you read. Scan a printed page, import a photo, or paste text, then look up and save words with their original context. Your collection becomes material for short vocabulary practice sessions.

Will I need an account?

The current app is designed to work without a Construe account. Your vocabulary, books, notes, and saved passages are stored on your device.

Does it work offline?

Page recognition happens on your device. Saved definitions, the small editorial dictionary, and vocabulary practice work offline. Looking up other words requires an internet connection.

Do you upload my scanned pages?

No. Construe recognizes page text on your device. For an online definition, it sends the requested word to the dictionary provider, along with normal connection information. The surrounding passage and your notes aren’t sent. Our privacy policy explains the details.

Can I suggest a feature or report a problem?

Absolutely. Tell us what you were trying to do and what would have helped. For a problem with a development build, include your device model, iOS version, app version, and the steps that led to it. Only include a screenshot if you’re comfortable sharing everything visible in it.
